Urgent Vacancy for National Indigenous Suicide Postvention Advocates

Are you an experienced professional working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and have experience working in Psychology, Social Work, Youth Work or other related human services or extensive experience  working with families and communities in the grass roots level? If so, then we would love to hear from you.

All Aspects Recruitment & HR Services are urgently recruiting for  National Indigenous Suicide Postvention Advocates to work in various locations in WA and VIC.

Our client is uniquely positioned as Australia’s only national indigenous Postvention services – which is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, established to support individuals, families and communities impacted by suicide through bereavement and healing journeys.

The purpose of the role:

Is to provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people suffering grief, loss and trauma from the impact of suicide. Working closely with communities to :

  • Support the development and implementation of self-determined plans to prevent future suicide
  • Provide expert, evidence-informed advice on a national level to support healing through social and emotional wellbeing of suicide-impacted families
  • Advocated for funding to Aboriginal-led and controlled services
  • Strengthen individual, family and community resilience and wellbeing through the delivery of critical response system to support affected individuals and families.

Role requirements – but not limited to:

You will be required to report to the Regional Coordinator.

The National Indigenous Suicide Postvention Advocate works within a strong community capacity building framework to provide National Indigenous Suicide Postvention Services (NISPS) to individuals, families and communities impacted by suicide and other fatal trauma.

Qualifications and Work Experience we would like you to have to be considered for these roles:

  • Relevant qualifications, which may include Aboriginal Health Worker/Practitioner;
  • Cert IV
  • Diploma, Graduate Diploma or Bachelor of Community Development
  • Indigenous Studies
  • Mental Health or other relevant field including: psychology, social work, youth work and other related human services or extensive experience in working with families and communities at the grass roots level.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in interagency partnerships to strengthen the health, social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

What we need you to have to be considered for these roles:

  • Well-developed oral and writing communication and interpersonal skills, including representation and negotiation
  • Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities including the ability to support  community capacity building activities
  • Demonstrated experience in documenting activities in a data base – case notes, client plans etc;
  • Preparation of reports and correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with service providers – both Government and Non-Government, including  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage and plan work, exercising sound judgement skills.
  • Motor vehicle Driver’s license
  • Satisfactory National Police Check (or be willing to obtain)
  • Satisfactory Working with Children Check
